People everywhere are arguing about what is causing the polar icecaps to melt and all the icebergs around the world. It is happening at a much more rapid rate than we expected and it seems that are showing so signs of stopping. What does all this melting ice mean for the world? What effects will it have on our planet over time? Is there anything that we can do to stop it or is it already too late to do anything about it?
Even scientists are disagreeing about the cause of all the melting ice. Some of them are adamant that is because of the global warming that we humans have caused, yet other scientists believe that it is a natural warming trend of the world that has probably taken place before in ancient history. Either way, does it spell some sort of disaster for us that we are incapable of stopping?
Already the polar bears are running out of enough ice to use as their normal hunting grounds. They are quickly becoming endangered and could one day before too many years become extinct if they are not protected and provided with what they need to survive. If all the icebergs melt there will be no way for them to keep up with the food supply that they need.
When and if the ice continues to melt at its current rate, some scientists are predicting that the sea levels will rise and many of our coastlines around the world will disappear and be replaced by new ones. This will give us less land all over the world and things are getting crowded enough as it is. What effect will this kind of rise in sea level have on coastal cities everywhere? Will they become extinct too or have to be rebuilt further inland? What effect will this kind of city destruction have on economies worldwide?
All of these are serious questions that we may have to deal with a lot sooner than we ever imagined. It would be incredible to us to actually see the world making a drastic change such as this right before our eyes. We watch all the scientific shows about horrendous natural disasters in past history such as what supposedly done in the dinosaurs, but what would it be like to actually have to try and live through a world change that will affect us so drastically. We might just have to except the fact that we are after all only human beings and we are powerless to change some things.
Davos is where Bubba wishes he was; however, getting those free rides on Air Force One and sleeping in the White House, even if in a different room, is more important these days. So, Bubba is up to his nose in controversy in the South Carolina primary, leaving Davos to Bono and Gore. And Soros, Gates, etc. They want to know what’s up with all this weird weather. Is it normal, cyclical, or signs of an impending doom?
Sharing a stage with the former US vice president Al Gore, at the annual gathering of world movers and shakers in the Swiss ski resort of Davos, the Bono joked that their friendship was a source of pressure on the domestic front.
“He’s been round my house and it’s like… here’s the recycler Al, you know… I’ve got a posh car, but it runs on ethanol Al,” Bono said.
Acknowledging that a career in rock music was not always conducive to a green lifestyle, Bono compared a conversation with Gore to an act of religious contrition. “It’s like being with an Irish priest. You start to confess your sins,” he said. “Father Al, I am not just a noise polluter, I am a noise-polluting, diesel-soaking, gulfstream-flying rock star. “I’m going to kick the habit. I’m trying father Al, but oil has been very good for me — those convoys of articulated lorries, petrochemical products, hair gel.”
Bono was there to push his pet project which is world wide poverty. And Gore, well you know what he was doing there, but let me elaborate.
“Climate change is occurring far more rapidly than even the worst predictions” Al Gore said on Thursday. He also added, “Recent evidence shows the climate crisis is significantly worse and unfolding more rapidly than those on the pessimistic side of the IPCC projections had warned us.”
Could global warming be part of the anticipated 2012 global catastrophe?
There are now some forecasts that the North Pole ice caps may disappear entirely during summer months within five years. And then you can get others who say this is nothing but a normal cycle. In 2007, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) issued a massive report the size of three phone books on the reality and risks of climate change, its 4th assessment in 18 years. One is to be impressed with the volume of any reports!
But, regardless of who is saying what, global warming is a key theme at this year’s meeting of the world’s business and political elite in Davos. And every major player is there- except Bubba of course!
There’s no question that our planet is warming up. Average global temperatures have risen around the world in the last 100 years, especially in the past 20 years. There are many theories out there when looking for answers to this, but only two are obvious. One of those theories is the idea that the Earth naturally goes through temperature cycles during the course of its existence. Another idea is that we as humans are introducing untold amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and this is causing the planet to heat up.
Regardless of how and why Earth is warming up, it’s happening, won’t stop anytime soon, and may be dangerous in the long run. Maybe it’s human activity or maybe it’s not, nobody will be able to tell us what the exact cause is. However, what we do know is the human population most certainly contributes to the warming of the planet. The good part is we have the power to slow it down and cut our carbon dioxide output down drastically.
There are many things you can do to help our environment and cut down on your carbon footprint, all of which are reductions of energy usage at home and on the road. First and foremost, replace all the light bulbs in all your residencies to the energy-efficient bulbs. This is huge and will save you hundreds of dollars a year on your power bill, thus promoting a cleaner environment. You can also replace your old appliances with newer, energy-efficient models. The same goes for your air conditioner. These are the top 3 ways to cut your power costs at home.
There’s now a 4th and big way to reduce your carbon footprint and power bill, that is, solar panels and wind turbines you can build yourself. You can find guides and manuals online that teach you about everything you need to know. The best part about this is how simple and easy it is to construct a green energy power system in your home. Not many people know about this, but it’s a serious money saver when comparing DIY green energy to professional installations. They cost tens and tens of thousands of dollars. If you’re interested in such projects there’s a popular new site on the internet that will feed you all the information you need.
Finally, and the most effective way to reduce your carbon footprint is to avoid driving your vehicle! Walk, jog, roller blade, or bike everywhere and anywhere you can. Get that blood pumping and the savings of fuel and energy mount up incredibly fast. If you can apply multiple techniques described here, I guarantee your energy costs will drop drastically.
Regardless of what’s causing global warming, we should all be striving to do our part and cut down our carbon footprints. Whether it’s turning the TV off at night or riding your bike to school, the Earth and the people inhabiting it will thank you.
Al Gore is not going to take any back up position in a Hillary Clinton presidency. Well, tell us something we don’t know! He says that if he’s ever to enter politics again it will be as a candidate for president. What he didn’t say is that he wants to wait another four more years to see how many of his global warming ideas are correct. Don’t we all!
The reduction in hurricanes this 2007 season didn’t help!
Recent stories on the polar bears didn’t help.
But maybe the news about penguins can save Al’s bacon.Antarctica’s penguin population has slumped because of global warming as melting ice has destroyed nesting sites and reduced their sources of food, a WWF report said on Tuesday. The Antarctic peninsula is warming five times faster than the average in the rest of the world, affecting four penguin species.
A report entitled, “Antarctic Penguins and Climate Change”, said sea ice covered 40 per cent less area than it did 26 years ago off the West Antarctic Peninsula, leading to a fall in stocks of krill, the main source of food for the chinstrap and gentoo penguins.
Meanwhile, an international team of scientists skeptical of man-made climate fears promoted by the UN and former Vice President Al Gore, descended on Bali this week to urge the world to “have the courage to do nothing” in response to UN demands.
Maybe we’ll know in the next four years and then Al might be able to run for president. If the penguin study has it right. But then again, that would be 2012 end of the world scenario. Who’d want to be the president presiding over that?
More than 50 people were killed on Super Tuesday in the Mid-west and it didn’t take but a day for the politicians to jump on the story and blame global warming. Politicians using tragedy to advance an agenda has been a tried-and-true strategy. A natural catastrophe became political fodder for former Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry (Mass.).
Kerry appeared on MSNBC on February 6 to discuss storms that have killed at least 50 people throughout the Southeastern United States, and he used the platform to advance global warming alarm- again.
“I don’t want to sort of leap into the larger meaning of, you know, inappropriately, but on the other hand, the weather service has told us we are going to have more and more intense storms. And insurance companies are beginning to look at this issue and understand this is related to the intensity of storms that is related to the warming of the earth. And so it goes to global warming and larger issues that we’re not paying attention to. The fact is the hurricanes are more intensive, the storms are more intensive and the rainfall is more intense at certain places at certain times and the weather patterns have changed.”
Okay, I’ll give you that, but what’s the cause? Is the cause something that our politicians can fix? You know that IS the thing that’s not being said here. Making us believe that our politicians can save us helps keep them in office. So, how’s that working out for YOU?
I think the problem is much bigger than carbon dioxides. Can you say Helioseismology?
County Mayor Shelvy Linville could only shake his head at the horrific toll left by a deadly series of tornadoes that pounded across the South. “It really is unbelievable that Mother Nature can create that much devastation,” he said Wednesday evening at his Macon County home. “We need your prayers.” Now we’re talking the truth! And in addition to our prayers we all need an increased collective consciousness because the problems coming our way are not so much from earth as from the sun.
When the eleven year sun cycle comes around again (hits it’s peak in 2012), we just may need all the prayers and more if what scientists are telling us comes about. Oh yes, and if what ancient cultures have been saying for thousands of years.
You would have thought that the Copernican revolution would have helped we who live on this planet to see that LFIE isn’t just “about us”. But then you would have thought that the Protestant revolution would have been a true reformation rather than just a changing out of the infallible gods (we traded an infallible Pope for an infallible Bible). Thus global warming is the hot topic instead of galactic warming.
I thought Al Gore was the main character that didn’t get it, but I think John Holdren is the worst of the two.
The president’s new science adviser, 65 year old physicist, John Holdren, said Wednesday that global warming is so dire, the Obama administration is discussing radical technologies to cool Earth’s air. We’re going to cool the earths atmosphere by geo-engineering? Give me a break!
John Holdren told The Associated Press in his first interview since being confirmed last month that the idea of geo-engineering the climate is being discussed. One such extreme option includes shooting pollution particles into the upper atmosphere to reflect the sun’s rays. Holdren said such an experimental measure would only be used as a last resort. Holdren outlined several “tipping points” involving global warming that could be fast approaching. Once such milestones are reached, such as complete loss of summer sea ice in the Arctic, it increases chances of “really intolerable consequences,”.
When the entire solar system is heating up do e seriously think what we do HERE is going to change whatever the FORCE or forces are from OUT THERE? Are we still operating on the geocentric-egoic paradigm?
Holdren is far from alone in taking geo-engineering more seriously. The National Academy of Science is making climate tinkering the subject of its first workshop in its new multidiscipline climate challenges program. The British parliament has also discussed the idea. The American Meteorological Society is crafting a policy statement on geo-engineering that says “it is prudent to consider geo-engineering’s potential, to understand its limits and to avoid rash deployment.” And, last week, Princeton scientist Robert Socolow told the National Academy that geo-engineering should be an available option in case climate worsens dramatically.
Shooting particles into the air or making an artificial volcano as one Nobel laureate has suggested—could have grave side effects and would not completely solve all the problems from soaring greenhouse gas emissions. We should be pondering a real volcano blast, a super-volcanic one from Yellowstone first. But alas, we still think the earth is the center of the universe and that we can solve all problems with our brilliant neo-cortex.
Give it a rest. December 21, 2012 is more about our intuitive and increased consciousness than what our pea-brains can output.
There has been a trend for people to be in denial that there will be major changes because of global warming and climate change. Most people would like to think that all will be well, however, this is no longer possible.
Most people are aware that life at the moment is no longer what they were expecting because of many changes in society and because of climate change. However, few people are aware that within the next five years far more change is expected happen.
Many planetary and weather changes will begin to emerge because of global warming and climate change. By 2011 it may already be clear to most people that this is happening.
It is of utmost importance and for your own benefit to understand that based on the current state of affairs with the planet, there will soon no longer be a future with sustainable living conditions. This will have an effect on most of humanity.
Despite the fact that global awareness about the state of the planet has increased enormously of late, more and more technological advances are becoming available and there is an increased willingness to make sustainable changes to help the environment, on a practical level there is not enough action taken to prevent the current process of unsustainable growth.
Changes to lifestyle are the most important issue humanity will have to face. Humanity will need to reverse a process of unsustainable growth due to lifestyle choices and economic growth, as its current way of living cannot adequately sustain humanity in the near future.
People will have to become more actively involved in making the necessary, mainly lifestyle, changes for the benefit of their own future and for that of next generations. They will need to find ways to reverse the current trends of ecological and environmental damage that is happening all over the world, and is still on the increase.
Most of humanity has not been aware and is inactive about a possible scenario, which has the potential of becoming an enormous looming disaster. This disaster can only narrowly be averted if people on every continent will come to the fore and begin to carry out lifestyle changes where they can. Global warming and climate change can no longer be denied.
Those in a position of power and those that are in an educational role are in particular in a privileged position to be the first ones to participate, contribute and be of assistance with these needed lifestyle changes.
Good governance and implementation of plans to support the environment are of major importance, however, every individual will need to have the will-power as well as the insight to make adequate changes to reduce their impact on the environment.
No single individual has all the answers for the planet’s problems, the immensity of which is beyond most people’s daily outlook of life. Most people would agree, however, that the future outlook is not good given the rate at which global warming is increasing and given the already known facts scientists have been presenting, which show how much the planet’s ecology has been damaged.
Climate change has begun and evidence of this can be found everywhere. It is important to better understand what this global rise in temperature will mean for the planet and your overall future. By increasing the understanding what the future will hold, people are often more likely to wish to make lifestyle changes.
From a Truth perspective there is barely any time left to make adequate changes so that the present generation can survive the last years of their life. Most of the important resources are dwindling enormously. There is not enough time left to make adequate changes to change this process.
The Arctic and the Antarctic regions play very important roles. How? First, like the human eyes, they are the mirrors to the soul; they are the first to manifest adverse effects like global warming. We witness these changes rather most drastically in these polar regions. Another correspondingly direct effect of global warming is: any change in the polar conditions affects those of all the other regions.
Once the polar ice melts, this flushes more freshwater from the region’s rivers, consequently holding the ocean from circulating fast enough, thereby causing higher sea levels. With more ice melting, more land and bodies of liquid water are exposed to the heat of the sun. These two, which naturally absorb more heat than snow and ice, causes more warming oceans and land masses. Worst of all is borne by the Arctic’s perennially frozen soil – melting of the polar ice releases the greenhouse gases (carbon and methane) trapped within. This is very dangerous as the Arctic permafrost contains a third of the planet’s total soil carbon content.
Man-made emissions would fade in comparison is all this carbon were released. The National Center for Atmospheric Research has also predicted that the Arctic could be ice-free starting 2040 and sea ice reduced by 80% in the next couple of decades.
Warming of the Arctic has already been felt and is now a cause for apprehension. According to the Polar Bear Specialist Group (the absolute scientific authority on everything involving polar bears) several (5) of their populations in the world are now stamped as declining.
Just recently, the US. Fish and Wildlife Service (USF & WS) announced that the polar bears who once roamed the territory freely may soon be classified under the list of endangered species. The agency has, in fact, done the initial steps already formally proposing to do such that, include the polar bears in the critical registry. This alarming announcement has, in effect, granted the request (later escalating to a demand by way of a lawsuit against the USF & WS) of 3 organizations (the Center for Biological Diversity, the National Resources Defense Council or NRDC, and Greenpeace.
For years, these three have been urging the US government precisely to act on the problem. It could be victory for the group, but not much since it has taken the concerned authorities this long ; it will now take painstaking effort to save the polar bears from extinction. An NRDC executive strongly referred to global warming as the one major threat to the survival of the polar bears. He urged further to stop delaying the action and to go full-force; no more half-measures.
Enlisting the species as endangered is not even the culmination of the unified effort; it is only the initial part of a long process. It should take the US Fish and Wildlife Service around one year to study the proposal before they decide on an action to take. Meantime, there is imminent danger that the polar bear would totally lose its sea-ice habitat as this one year rolls by. Loss of sea ice also means loss of their main source of food which are ice seals. This could also result to more mortality as the bears would tend to cannibalize their ranks in the absence of prey. Why? Mainly because enlisting a species as endangered does not necessarily mean ready plans would immediately be implemented.
Steps would involve a stoppage on all activities that threaten the bears survival, before developing and implementing of a recovery plan are put to order by the Fish and Wildlife Service. Faced with the rate greenhouse gases are being emitted from the Arctic, this will indeed be a daunting task.
Talking about populations, it is not just that of the polar bears which lie victim to global warming. The Inuits, (a member of the Eskimo peoples living in northernmost North America down to eastern Canada and Greenland) depend on the sea ice for food. The dismal and continued shortening of their hunting season by 50% has had drastic effects on their lives.
Will it not be long till a people and an era vanished from the face of the earth? Can we do something about it?
