It would seem like they could teleconference the whole thing, so as to not look like hypocrites. But by getting together personally they can discuss things that they don’t want ever showing up on the record. Bribes and kickbacks and how the swag will be split up.
I just asked a similar question, but perhaps they actually are. To a socialist, a crisis is always a call for somebody else to make sacrifices.
